5 Reasons that makes Guitar the world’s most popular instrument..”

Keeping the component of ‘beautiful guitar tone’ aside, I want to pin-point practical factors that are responsible for Guitar Popularity. Although every instrument is beautiful and carries its own story and tone for example Flute, Saxophone, Violin, Cello, Sitar, Santoor, Duduk etc. yet Professional music market has comparatively more platforms and opportunities for guitar players than any other instrumental players. And there are plenty of reasons for it, here are the first five of them.

5th – Guitar is used at most music platforms from Devotional, Ghazal, Pop and Rock music etc.. Guitar player can adapt Ragas or Rock, Bollywood or Blues, Classical or Jazz whatever one wants. The guitar potentiality to express different styles of music not only makes it adaptive to be used by different musicians but also make it universal and popular. A single genre in Guitar and a single life is very small to comprehend it. You are both complete and incomplete as a Guitarist.

4th – It can play both leads and rhythms unlike Sitar, Violin that only play leads or percussions (like drums, Tabla etc.) that has no lead scope. You can satisfy your thirst of Rhythms/Accompaniment or Leading/ Melody. You are adjustable to all platforms as a ‘Guitarist’.

3rd – It is mobile, stylish and has a very strong appeal for glamour world due to its physical personality (imagine the curve part). It’s too light in weight to carry anywhere. Also to note Guitar is the most rough and tough of all instruments – many other instruments are more delicate and breakable where guitar will survive that tension.

2nd – One of the most economical instruments to buy at Rs. 2000 INR ($ 40). It can be purchased at a very affordable price and moreover maintenance and repair is not very expensive.  Although guitar has various luxury high priced models (based on brand business approach) yet they actually start good deal at 2k – 3k prices but if you compare it with any other instruments for reference Piano, Oboe, Saxophone, Sitar etc. they go as multiple times higher as compared to Guitar to start upon.

1st – It gives you enough space for your personal choice of music learning and gives you result faster. Guitar is indeed result oriented in some time say 3 months i.e. not as difficult, arduous, specific, disciplined, and one-dimensional as Oboe, Cello, Tabla, Vocal or Sitar where you would need 1-2 years and will move equal to Guitar.

This is something that makes guitar exploration easier for anyone and it became the world’s most demanding and versatile instrument.

How to maintain your Guitar | Guitar Maintenance Tips

1)    Don’t expose yours guitar to direct heat and dew in the night. Don’t place it even before heater, heat ventilator or radiator, A.C etc.

2)    Never tune the strings higher to the standard pitch. Must have the pitch note with you to tune the guitar.

3)    While tuning guitar, tight the strings by slowly rotating the tuning pegs and not rapidly as it may break the string.

4)    Protect yours guitar from dust, always cover it when not playing.

 5)    Keep a soft cotton cloth to wipe the sweat of fingers over the frets and strings. Do it during and after playing the guitar.

6)    Change the string at least once in two months or change it when the strings are rusted.

7)    Loosen all the strings tension from the standard pitch, especially when not playing the guitar for a period, which may be a week or more.

8)    It’s always better to change the worn out strings, as once a string is worn out it sounds dead, some guitarist use sandpaper to remove the rust, but it destroys the tone quality.

9)    For better maintenance and learning efficiency, one must keep an extra string set, a tool that can cut the strings, pick holder, music stand, plectrums in varied thickness, cotton cloth and guitar cover or case.

Also take special care from the bumps and kicks while carrying the guitar on a bike or car. Belt buckles can also destroy the back finish of a guitar. One can use double or triple covers while carrying on bike. It assures extra safety.

My Student Broke his Guitar Neck | What to do if Guitar Neck break?

“Your Guitar is a delicate instrument, preserve it before it’s perished”

Friends,

I am sharing one of our recent guitar accidents where our student guitar breaks by falling from the chair.

This is not the first accident at guitarmonk and that’s why we share and guide all our students with Guitar Maintenance Tips.

“I have bought a plethora of Guitars in my life, some precious model as Signature brand got damaged without any mis-happening within just one year and some by my mistakes, where as some specific selected pieces like Yamaha, Givson they are now with me for 7-8 years and more and yet working perfectly”

Why most Guitars break? Is due to none extra care by student. Guitar is indeed one of the most rough and tough wood instrument yet it’s a music instrument that produce sound. At times they mishandle it as a style instrument and suddenly they are faced with an accident known as “Broken Neck”.

One of the weakest joint of Guitar is from headstock part and also if the guitar has an angled-back headstock, it’s more vulnerable and is a pretty thinner area. We always recommend putting less pressure in that area or protecting the area from kicks and bumps etc.

But anyhow if this worst thing has happened to you, don’t panic and it’s repairable..! Here are the solutions –

a)    Slacken off all your strings very gently – loose all tensions from it. This is applicable in both cases if your headstock is still connected or detached

b)    If the headstock is disconnected with splinters, just wrap them (Your can wrap them in newspaper or any other paper) without disturbing the shape or trying to fix them as they will be useful while joining.

c)    Check for splints and gather them – they will be needed to complete the Jigsaw and get it repaired fast.

Lastly go to an experience repairer and get it repaired :)
